Abstract:

Fernandezia tica (Orchidaceae) from the highlands of Costa Rica is described. The discovery of this species extends northward the geographic range of an Andean genus. The new species is characterized by monopodial growth, fleshy leaves suffused of purple with a prominent sheath, and a lateral, racemose inflorescence with two or three fleshy, half-open, purple-rose flowers.
