Trees. Leaves alternate. Inflorescence a many-flowered corymb or panicle. Bracts and bracteoles caducous, not concealing the young flowers. Flowers slightly zygomorphic. Sepals subcircular. Petals subcircular, white. Stamens numerous (20-60). Ovary of 1 (-3) 2-locular carpels. Fruit a fleshy drupe; endocarp very hard with 2 lateral plates which break away on germination.

Medium to large evergreen tree. Leaves alternate, elliptic-oblong with a prominent drip tip, shiny dark green above, dull green below; margins entire but wavy. Two small raised glands are present at the base of the midrib. Flowers, 1-2 cm in diameter, in corymbs, creamy white or greenish. Stamens numerous, longer than the petals. Fruit an obovoid, fleshy drupe, hairless.
Bole: Straight. Buttressed. Large. To 50 m. Bark: Pale brown/grey. Flaking in patches/smooth. Slash: Dark red with pale grey edge. Slight milky exudate. Leaf: Simple. Alternate. Petiole: NR. Lamina: Medium. 8 - 15 × 4 - 6.5 cm. Elliptic/oblong. Cuneate. Acuminate. Entire. Glabrous. Domatia: NR. Glands: 2 glands on petiole. Stipules: Falling. Thorns & Spines: Absent. Flower: White/green-white. Panicle. Hermaphrodite. Fruit: Black drupe.
