Localidad del tipo: Costa Rica, Cartago, Río Turrialba. Altura 500 m. Marzo de 1896.

Bosques muy húmedos, áreas alteradas.
Distribucion en Costa Rica: Cordillera de Tilarán (vertiente atlántica), vertiente atlántica, Pacífico sur, elevación entre 0 y 750 m.
Distribucion General: Costa Rica y Panamá.
Arbol o arbusto.
Arboles o arbustos de 2 a 12 m, de tallos glabrados.
Hojas subsésiles. Pecíolo inconspícuo. Láminas de (31) 34 a 68 por 7.5 a 18 cm, de obovadas a angostamente obovadas, de glabras a glabradas en el envés, de atenuadas y obtusas a redondeadas basalmente, de enteras a remotamente serradas. Inflorescencia hasta de 65 cm de largo, tripinnada pero de apariencia bipinnada, diminutamente puberulenta a glabrada. Pétalos inmaduros de verdes a verde-crema. Frutos de 1.8 a 2.4 cm, blanquecinos, de verde-blanco a púrpura al madurar. Se reconoce por la dimensión de sus hojas, subsésiles, obtusas a redondeadas basalmente y el largo de la inflorescencia.Type collection for Meliosma donnellsmithii Urb.
