Hierba o subarbusto.
Hierba o subarbusto, anual o perenne, hasta 1 m de altura; tallos a menudo tetrágonos, tomentosos.
Hojas con pecíolos más o menos alados o la lámina angostamente cuneada en la base, ovada u oblongo-ovada, por lo general de 3-10 por 1,5-6 cm, ápice agudo u obtuso, haz de escabroso a glabro, envés pubescente, margen aserrado. Inflorescencias de 8 a 35 cm de largo; raquis cerca de 3 mm de diámetro, piloso; brácteas aristadas de 6 a 9 mm de largo, de adpresas a divergentes; cáliz de 6 a 11 mm de largo; corola azul, blanca o roja, tubo de 10 a 16 mm de largo. Frutos cerca de 4 mm de largo.
