Leptochloa
EOL Text
Leptochloa is a widespread genus of Asian, African, Australian, and American plants in the grass family.[5][6]
Members of the genus are commonly known as sprangletops.[1][7]
The generic name is derived from the Greek words ληπτος (leptos), meaning "thin," and χλοα (chloa), meaning "grass," referring to the inflorescences.[8][9]

Annuals or perennials. Inflorescence of several to many racemes, arranged on a central axis. Spikelets 1-several-flowered, laterally flattened, disarticulating above the glumes and between the florets. Glumes persistent, membranous, 1-nerved, shorter than the spikelet. Lemmas 3-nerved, obtuse or 2-toothed at the apex, sometimes mucronate, rarely with a short awn.
