Distribucion en Costa Rica: Se encuentra en ambas vertientes: en la Atlántica, de la Cordillera Central (hasta Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Barra del Colorado) y Talamanca (hasta Puerto Limón) y en la Pacífica en la cabeza de Golfo Dulce, elevaciones entre 0"50 ("460) m.
Distribucion General: Probablemente en el extremo Sureste de Nicaragua, al este de Centroamérica y Panamá.

Tallos de 0.5 a 5 m de altura y alrededor de 2.5 a 4 cm de diámetro; entrenudos espinosos, al menos distalmente. Pecíolos más allá de la vaina de 27 a 70 cm, inermes a formidablemente espinosos, las espinas de al menos 6.5 cm; uniformemente negras, vaina negra, interiormente abrillantada.
Lámina foliar simple y bífida de alrededor de 1.25 a 3.1 m por 21 a 30 cm http://darnis.inbio.ac.cr/FMPro?-db=imagenes3.fp3&key=37737&-img" > (Ver imà gen) ; raquis inerme o remotamente espinoso (como los pecíolos), marginalmente espinoso. Raquis de la inflorescencia de alrededor de 2 a 10 cm; raquilas 7 a 23, 1.5-6 cm de longitud. Frutos maduros de 1.1 a 1.6 por 1.0 a 1.8 cm, más o menos turbinados, fuertemente rostrados, rojos o anaranjados.Bactris militaris se distingue fácilmente por sus hojas largas, relativamente angostas y consistentemente simples y bífidas. Como lo indica el epíteto, las plantas están formidablemente armadas; sin embargo, como en muchas especies del género Bactris, esta es una condición variable, pudiendo tener este hojas armadas e inermes en el mismo tallo.Isotype for Bactris militaris H.E.
