Hierba cespitosa hasta de 1 m de altura. Lígula cerca de 1 mm de largo; láminas foliares de 9,0 a 34,0 por 0,4 a 1,2 cm, glabras o pubescentes en el haz.
Inflorescencia de 3,0 a 10,0 (-12,5) cm de largo, densa, raquis no visible; cipsela erizada de 5 a 9 por 2 a 4 mm, con un anillo basal de cerdas delgadas, espinas y cerdas retrorsamente escabrosas, cerdas exteriores tan largas como la cipsela erizada; espiguillas de 5 a 7 mm de largo.Type fragment for Cenchrus viridis Spreng.
