Hierba.
Hierba, de 3 a 4,5 m de altura, con hábito similar al de Zingiber.
Hojas de 7 a 10 por tallo; lámina de 70-80 por 15-20 cm. Inflorescencia erecta, cerca de 20 cm de largo; con 5 a 10 brácteas cincinadas, dísticas, la bráctea medial de 9-11 por 4-4,5 cm, con la superficie externa glabra, rojo anaranjado. De 8 a 15 flores por cincino, resupinadas; perianto ligera y uniformemente curvado, de 5-5,5 por 0,9-1 cm, glabro, rojo anaranjado basalmente, hasta amarillo puro apicalmente; ovario rojo.Isotype for Heliconia golfodulcensis G.S.
