Climbers. Leaves opposite, compound; leaflets (in ours) 2 with a terminal 3-fid tendril. Flowers reddish-orange, borne in terminal or axillary panicles. Calyx (in ours) truncate. Corolla tubular. Stamens exserted. Disk annular. Capsule long, linear.

Lianas con zarcillos. Tallos obtusamente hexagonales o subangulares con 6-8 prominencias; corte transversal del tallo maduro con floema periférico normal; zona interpeciolar no glandulosa; pseudoestípulas inconspicuas. Hojas opuestas, 2-3-folioladas, con un zarcillo terminal trífido. Flores en panículas terminales o axilares. Cáliz simple, crateriforme, truncado o 5-denticulado, más o menos glandular-lepidoto; corola rojo-anaranjado, zigomorfa, estrechamente tubular-infundibuliforme; estambres 4, didínamos, exertos; ovario súpero, bicarpelar linear-tetrágono, lepidoto, con un disco anular-pulviniforme en la base. Fruto una cápsula linear, comprimida, lisa, con las valvas paralelas al septo; semillas numerosas, con 2 alas marrones con márgenes hialinos. Género con 3 ó 4 especies naturalmente distribuidas desde el sur de Colombia hasta Brasil y Paraguay.

Leaves opposite, 2-3-foliolate, with a terminal trifid tendril. Flowers in terminal or axillary panicles. Calyx simple, crateriform, truncate or 5-denticulate, more or less glandular-lepidote; corolla red-orange, zygomorphic, narrowly tubular-infundibuliform; stamens 4, didynamous, exserted; ovary superior, bicarpellate, linear-tetragonal, lepidote, with an annular-pulvinate disc at the base. Fruit a linear capsule, compressed, smooth, with the valves parallel to the septum; seeds numerous, with 2 brown wings with hyaline margins. A genus of 3 or 4 species naturally distributed from southern Colombia to Brazil and Paraguay.
