Árbol o arbusto.
Árbol o arbusto de 3 a 7 m de altura. Estípulas de 4 a 5 mm de largo. Hojas bipinnadas, alternas, con (1-)2 pares de pinnas, folíolos de (4-)7 a 10 pares por pinna, de 8 a 15(-18) por (2-)3-5(-9) mm, de oblongos a elípticos o lanceolados.
Inflorescencia en capítulos. Flores rosadas, hasta de 6 a 8 mm de largo. Frutos tipo legumbres aplanadas, de 8-10 por 1-1,4 cm, leñosos, márgenes elevados.
DIAGNÁSTICO: Se caracteriza por sus hojas con dos pares de pinnas, folíolos más anchos que en Calliandra rubescens y ramitas con numerosas estípulas persistentes.
