In Costa Rica occurrences are very scarce and confined to protected areas. Similarly in Panama, the species is restricted to Darin and San Blas, where populations appear to be in a poor state with little evidence of regeneration. Subpopulations extend into the Choc in Colombia. There may some confusion with subpopulations of the closely related species, C. amygdaliforme.

Distribucion en Costa Rica: Reserva Biológica Carara hasta el pacífico sur, incluyendo las fajas costeñas de Puriscal, Acosta y Quepos, Palmar Norte, Sector Oeste del Valle del General, elevación entre 0-600 m.
Distribucion General: Panamá a Colombia.

Árbol.
Árboles de 5 a 55 m de altura. Hojas trifoliadas, opuestas con glándulas en la base de los peciolulos, foliolos elípticos a obovado-elípticos, aserrados marginalmente, el terminal de 12--16 por 6--8 cm, los laterales más pequeños. Inflorescencias racemosas, agrupadas en el tercio distal.Flores amarillas con numerosos estambres.
