Reasons: Widely planted and naturalized in tropical and subtropical regions. Naturalized in southeastern United States, Bermuda, through West Indies, and from Mexico to Argentina. Cultivated in Puerto Rico and spontaneous after planting and naturalized, chiefly in the lower mountain and moist limestone forest regions.

Leaf: Used in a sedative infusion in French Guiana. Fruit: Refreshing, slightly acidic juice is drunk for influenza, and used for cleansing wounds. In Guyana, a slice of fruit is eaten with salt to control a fever. Peel and pulp are bitter. Fruit: Used for treatment of biliousness in NW Guyana.
Uses: Fruit, Honey, Folk medicine, Cultivated ornamental, Aromatic/perfume/essence
Comments: La madera es dura. Apreciada para trabajos de tallado. Es cultivada para producir el aceite fragrante "petit-grain". El follaje cosechado y destilado al vapor para extraer su esencia. Es un cultivo rentable con muchas posibilidades para integrarse en esquemas agroforestales. El té de las hojas tiene propiedades estomacales. Las abejas usan el nectar de las hojas para producir una miel aromática de excelente calidad. En algunos paises se extrae de las flores el aceite esencial para preparar el agua de azahar y a esencia de nerolí. Los frutos se emplean en confituras y en la elaboración de mermeladas y jaleas. Arbol usado como ornamental.
