Arbusto o árbol de 8 a 15 (24) m de altura. Hojas ancho-elípticas a elíptico-oblongas de 4 a 26 cm de largo por 2 a 10 cm de ancho; pecíolos eglandulares, margen usualmente entero.
Inflorescencias bisexuales, racemosas de 3 a 9 o más cm de largo. Frutos de 9 a 12 mm de longitud. Se reconoce por su indumento lepidoto, por sus hojas que cuando secas generalmente son café-obscuro, con el margen entero y los pecíolos egladulares y por su inflorescencia bisexual con las flores femeninas largo-pediceladas. Anteriormente esta especie fue confundida con Croton glabellus; la cual es una especie de las Antillas que no crece en el país.Paratype for Croton perobtusus Lundell
