Distribucion en Costa Rica: Se ha recolectado en la zona norte, vertiente atlántica y parte central y suroeste de la vertiente pacífica, desde el nivel del mar hasta los 1100 m.
Distribucion General: Panamá.
Árbol o arbusto.
Árbol o arbusto de 4 a 6 m de altura, ramitas glabras. Hojas simples, alternas, dísticas ">http://darnis.inbio.ac.cr/FMPro?-db=imagenes2.fp3&key=37294&-img"> (Ver fotografía) , de 10 a 24 por 4 a 10 cm, oblongas, elíptico-oblongas u obovadas. Frutos apocárpicos, monocarpos de 5 a 10.5 por 1.7 a 2 cm, algo cilíndricos, con 12 a 14 semillas en dos filas o hileras.Vegetativamente es difícil de identificar. Algunas hojas tienen puntos negros por el envés, visible con un lente 20 X. Los frutos, cuando maduros, son rojizo-amarillentos y semejan pequeños dedos.Holotype for Asimina costaricensis Donn. Sm.

Es una especie escasa o rara.
