Escallonia myrtilloides L. f.

Habit: Shrub
Árboles o arbustos de 2 a 5 m de alto, muy ramificados, de copa estratificada y más o menos triangular, con forma de "pagoda china". Tallos jóvenes con muchas cicatrices conspícuas de las hojas, de corteza dura y escamosa.
Las hojas son obovadas, de pecíolo corto, menores de 3 mm de largo. Lámina de 0.9 a 2.3 por 0.4 a 1 cm, de obtusas a redondeadas en el ápice, oscuramente crenadas. Inflorescencias corimbosas, densamente aglomeradas, de terminales a subterminales, de 1 a 1.5 cm de largo, bracteadas. Pétalos aproximadamente de 2 mm de largo, de amarillos a verde-crema. Frutos verdes al madurar, pequeños e inconspÁcuos. Se puede reconocer fácilmente en el páramo por su aspecto de "pagoda china" y por formar poblaciones muy densas.Isotype for Escallonia poasana Donn.
