Árbol.
Árbol de 7 a 15 m de altura. Ramitas densamente hirsutas; estípulas lineares, de 5 mm de largo. Hojas simples, alternas, dísticas, de 8-14,5 por 3-6 cm, de oblongas a oblongo-elípticas, ápice acuminado, denso-pubescentes en el envés, borde entero.
Inflorescencias racemosas, péndulas, de 24 a 30 cm de largo. Flores rosadas, con tres estambres. Frutos tipo drupas, de 1,8-2,5 por 1-1,2 cm, elipsoides, de rojos a negros cuando maduros. Se caracteriza por sus ramitas y hojas densamente pubescentes, las hojas dísticas y corto-pecioladas y las inflorescencias largas y péndulas. A veces se confunde con H. americana, pero H. lemsii crece normalmente en sitios más húmedos y la pubescencia de ramitas y hojas es hirsuta, contrariamente a la pubescencia tomentosa rojiza de H. americana.Isotype for Hirtella lemsii L.O. Esta especie llega a ser frecuente a común en algunos bosques de la zona norte, sobre todo aquellos de terreno ondulado.
