Se ha observado en áreas abiertas, en potreros y en vegetación secundaria ">http://darnis.inbio.ac.cr/FMPro?-db=imagenes.fp3&key=38732&-img"> (ver fotografía) . En climas húmedos con una estación seca marcada (3-4 meses)
Aunque es una especie con una amplia distribución mundial, en Costa Rica la población se encuentra restringida a la región de Los Chiles y Caño Negro; se ha observado que es escasa.

Para leña, además se considera ornamental en áreas extensas o grandes, por su hermosa copa redondeada y densa.
Inga fagifolia is a species of legume in the Fabaceae family. It is found from Costa Rica down to Peru. [1]

Distribucion en Costa Rica: Hasta el momento es conocida solo de la región norte: Los Chiles y Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Caño Negro. Elevación entre los 20-40 m.
Distribucion General: Ampliamente distribuida desde México hasta Suramérica, Paraguay y el norte de Argentina; además se encuentra también en las Antillas Mayores y Menores.
