Especie de bosques muy húmedos, se encuentra ocasionalmente en remanentes de bosque y a veces como árbol ripario.
Árbol.
Árbol de 7 a 15 m de altura. Ramitas denso-pubescentes; estípulas de 1 a 2 cm de largo, persistentes en el ápice. Hojas simples, alternas, lámina de oblicua a obovada, de 22-40(-45) por 12-25(-33) cm, ápice de agudo a redondeado, base asimétrica, subcoriácea, con 8 a 11 nervios primarios, pubescentes por lo general en el envés y en los pecíolos.
Flores blancas, caulifloras, fasciculadas; cáliz campanulado de 1,2 a 1,5 cm de largo. Frutos ovoides o subglobosas, subcoriáceas, amarillo anaranjado cuando maduras, hasta 4 cm de diámetro.
DIAGNÁSTICO: Se reconoce fácilmente por sus hojas grandes, pubescentes, con la base profundo-cordada asimétrica y con forma de oreja.
